Last week I posted a shorter post about some of the wonderful events during the NYCxDESIGN ten year anniversary celebrations. There was so much that was so wonderful to see, and as the weeks go forward I'll be writing more in depth about some of the beautiful designs and launches and special evenings I attended.
Foscarini has been a favorite destination for so many designers for so many years, and the New York showroom had exciting new creations to share and inspire us. As a special addition in the New York City Soho showroom for Design Week, Foscarini displayed photographs from "The City Of Light", a photography project by Gianluca Vasallo and Francesco Mannironi that was created for Foscarini with images of New York combined with the Uptown Lamp by Ferrucio Laviani, inspired by New York City. The photographs were presented together with the Nile Lamp by Rodolfo Dordoni and the Chiaroscura Lamp by Alberto and Francesco Meda. Along with the gorgeous photographic images and the stunning designs, there was a video installation with interviews with the Designers about their process, giving us a glimpse into their visionary work and adding information about their ideas and how the designs begin and move onto becoming the lovely objets d'art that we can use every day in our homes and work spaces.
The Artist and Photographer Gianluca Vasallo was at the showroom for the event, and I had a few moments to speak with him as he signed the print that I had selected. It's a piece I will treasure all the more because of the memories of that beautiful and inspiring evening and the knowledge I gained about the Artists and Designers and their work. The light that they create is not only a part of illuminating the physical world, but it adds to our sense of beauty and the inspiration we experience as we look at the world through their eyes and see it anew.
