This week I have the honor of being an Ambassador for Women In Construction at the New York Build Expo at the Javits Center in New York City. It's something that I've been a part of for several years now, and it always is such a great event, and to be invited to be a part of it in this role is really something that is so special and such a blessing.
Several people I know have joked with me over the years that I do so many things that they wonder when I ever sleep, and now with the opening of my gallery last summer and a few other big projects I'm continuing to develop in the areas of food security and food system education my time is even more full. But when wonderful opportunities and invitations arise I feel it's important to accept them and somehow or other everything that needs to happen will happen if I just take a deep breath and say a prayer and sometimes many and do what I need to do in a focused way one step at a time.
New York Build brings together so many wonderful and interesting people in the construction, architecture, design and building industries that it's always full of really excellent insights and inspiration. Every year I meet someone and sometimes several people from different new companies that are doing and creating things that give me new ways of looking and thinking about the world, and there are always projects I'm working on or people I'm discussing projects with who I can make referrals to because of the truly innovative and exciting products and ideas and entrepreneurs and companies represented and sharing their work at the expo.
To be a Women In Construction Ambassador is such an honor and a blessing, and I'm so grateful to New York Build for the wonderful event they've created and for inviting me to be a part of it in this wonderful way. Celebrating and highlighting women and their roles in the wonderful work that they do as part of this vibrant and multi-faceted industry is such an important aspect of recognizing the value of encouraging diversity and in helping to grow the knowledge within the various workplace worlds, and adding new perspectives from people from many backgrounds brings more depth and layers and levels to every project and insures that there is an abundance of wealth of ideas and expertise to create successful and innovative outcomes.
