Notes From The City: An Abundant Life

Even people who know me well sometimes don't know how much I love makeup. I don't wear much of it on a daily basis, often just some eyeliner or on occasion nothing at all, and even when I go "out out" as a friend used to say in college, I still don't wear very much. But I do love it, and one of my favorite things to do is play around with colors and eyeshadows and lipsticks, and putting on a little something special for a special day or night out can make the girly girl in me happy in a way that only makeup can. While it is true that a confident woman uses makeup for fun for herself and not to impress anyone else, it's always nice to know that you're looking your best, and so one of the reasons I don't wear makeup more often is because with the amount of traveling around that I do and places I go for food and fun and making merry, I'd have to carry a makeup bag to keep myself looking at the end of the day the way I looked at the beginning. For someone like me who is always out and about and who never says no to tasting something delicious at a party, lipstick is a problem because the darker the shade the more obvious it is on edges of glasses, cocktail and dinner napkins, and even unfortunately sometimes on your teeth or your clothing. I love a beautiful shade of color on my mouth to match or dramatize an outfit, but often I choose something neutral or pale or nothing at all because I don't want my lip color to become a possible mess that I have to deal with.

When I first saw the name DiSpagna Sweet Lips on Instagram, I thought it was a fun-loving make up lover like me, and in a way that's true, although unlike me, DiSpagna Sweet Lips is a man. Matthew DiSpagna, is a fun-loving and lovely person, but very much a man's man, and his interest in the product is because he loves to help people and he sees the quality of the product and the potential it has to build confidence and encourage entrepreneurs. When I met with him at his LipSense party, he was giving demonstrations on his own face on Facebook Live and letting us all who were there in person try the product for ourselves and play with the different colors. It was the most amazing experience to try on dark and light lipsticks and drink out of a glass without leaving a smudge on the rim or my face, and I can tell you from experience after using the color I selected that it lasted perfectly through an entire evening of an event at a nightclub with delicious hors d'oeuvres with dipping sauces and sparkling wine and whiskey. And at the end of the evening when it was time to remove it, it came off quickly and effortlessly with the remover that comes with the product. For models and actors and people in the spotlight, it's a way to stay camera ready for hours, and for those of us who just want to have fun, we can have our cake and eat it too and be ready for the cameras and the action when they find us.
